Carlsbad Recreation and Parks

Carlsbad is a great place for outdoor activities on the beach and inland with over 27 miles of hiking trails and a comprehensive plan by the city to expand trails, parks, and open space areas. Other recreational activities include swimming, snorkeling, diving, fishing, sun-bathing, wind- and kite-surfing, and children’s programs at city and county parks with great facilities for youth sports and adult teams. Carlsbad beaches have showers, lifeguards, and restrooms. Carlsbad State Beach and South Carlsbad State Beach offer swimming, surfing, scuba diving, fishing and beachcombing and are located at the foot of coastal bluffs south of the town. There’s always an outdoor activity and special events planned for young and old in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad's southern California location and climate make it a perfect spot for any type of outdoor experience and entertainment. With the area's natural beauty and year round pleasant climate, you will find yourself in search of outdoor activities and ways to relax while enjoying the community's atmosphere and environment. There are various recreation centers and community parks for people of all ages to enjoy and spend a day or an afternoon relaxing at, offering activities such as horse shoes, basketball courts, picnic areas, barbecue pits, sand volleyball courts, hiking trails, and swimming pools. Within the Carlsbad community, there are many centers and sites that offer these amenities and more, so take advantage of your local neighborhood and community centers and check them out.

Batiquitos Lagoon offers more than just a walk in the park for its visitors, both residents and tourists alike. The coastal wetland runs along the southern California coast, and is carefully protected and preserved by the community. There are nature trails throughout the lagoon that allow visitors to experience this natural environment, including the plants and animals that inhabit the area. Living in the ecosystem here are many endangered and rare species of birds, most of which have only begun to repopulate since efforts to preserve and restore the lagoon's natural tidal flows. The trail runs 2.5 miles roundtrip, and is fairly easy, allowing visitors to enjoy the surrounding beauty of the environment as well as the day. The lagoon looks out to the Pacific Ocean, offering an amazing landscape and scenic view. Batiquitos Lagoon is situated between Carlsbad Blvd., La Costa Ave., El Camino Real, La Costa Resort, and the Four Seasons Hotel.

With almost year round perfect weather in this beach town, spending some time near the water is always a good way to both have fun and relax.
