Del Mar Recreation and Parks

Del Mar is a great place for outdoor recreational activities and includes several family parks for youth sports and adult recreation. There are parks near the beach, including Powerhouse Park which has a lush lawn for outdoor parties and events, and frequently has live music and other entertainment. And the nearby Carmel Valley Recreation Center contains an Olympic-size pool, basketball courts, and offers a wide array of youth and adult activities for an active community, such as tennis lessons, swimming lessons, basketball leagues, and much more. In addition, there are many hiking and horse trails available nearby, as well as easy access to Torrey Pines State Beach, one of the most popular beaches in San Diego.

Stretching along two and a half miles of the Pacific coastline, Del Mar's sandy beaches are not only beautiful, but a great way to spend any day. The surf up here always attracts local surfers and body boarders, and with such a large beach area, there is plenty of space to throw a Frisbee, fly a kite, sunbathe, and enjoy some of Del Mar's finest scenery. In addition to Del Mar's beach scene, there are plenty of other ways to spend the day in one of the Pacific coast's most attractive areas. Whether it be shopping around, experiencing any of Del Mar's freshest and finest cuisine at their many restaurants, grabbing a cup of coffee and some lunch with your friends, or spending a day at the infamous racetracks, there is always something to do that will entertain everyone.

Parks

Del Mar Dog Beach , or North Beach, as many locals like to refer to the area, is the perfect spot to take your furry friend for an afternoon of Frisbee throwing and tail wagging! The spot is dog friendly and a favorite of canines and dog lovers. There are seasonal leash laws here, which the lifeguards strictly enforce, so please be respectful and follow the rules with your pet. During the off season of October-May dogs are allowed to play off their leash, but owners are expected to keep their animals under control. Parking for Dog Beach is available on the street, but beware of the metered time slots or you will be ticketed. All day parking passes can be purchased for $4.

Dog Beach is located on Camino del Mar and for more information call: (858) 755-1556

Powerhouse Park and Seagrove Park are Del Mar's two seaside parks that are both great places to pack a picnic lunch and bring the family. The parks are located near the beach, and are especially great locations to watch the sun set over the water. Because of their location, the parks are also ideal for private events and special occasions, but must be reserved with plenty of time in advance.

Powerhouse Park and Seagrove Park are located within the 1600 Coast Boulevard of Del Mar

Torrey Pines State Reserve is one of the most preserved and well kept wild areas of land in southern California. The 2,000 acres of land stretch along the coastline from La Jolla to Del Mar and include many different species of plants and animals, Torrey pine trees, beaches, and a lagoon. Within the park, there are 8 miles of trails, a visitor center, and guided nature walks. The park is open daily from 8 am until sunset, and no overnight camping is allowed. Food and drinks are not permitted on within the park, with the exception of water, which is recommended during the hikes. Torrey Pines State Reserve has been preserved and continues to be protected so the park and its inhabitants can remain untouched and enjoyed by all now and in the future.

Torrey Pines State Reserve is located between La Jolla and Del Mar at 16500 North Torrey Pines Road
