Lake Lindo is the body of water where the community began. It is the only natural freshwater lake in San Diego, created by runoff from the nearby mountains.
Though increases in population have brought big name stores to Lakeside, giving the residents modern amenities, it remains a town known for a laid-back, slower pace.
In accord with the country lifestyle, many Lakeside homeowners keep horses on their properties. Most lots are spacious and accommodate single-level, ranch style homes as well as manufactured and mobile homes. Lakeside communities include Finn Springs, Winter Gardens, and Eucalyptus Hills. There are many affordable homes in Lakeside, as well as larger, custom homes above the million dollar mark.
Lakeside offers its residents many recreational outdoor activities to take advantage of the favorable year-round climate. Boating, fishing, horseback riding and bird watching are enjoyed by locals at the community parks and four lakes. There are also more traditional sports, such as baseball, softball, tennis, and more. The community center located next to the Lake Lindo County Park offers additional recreation programs, as well as computer classes, karate, and driver training.
Lakeside is home to the Maine Avenue Street Dance and Spirit of Christmas and is most well known locally as the site of the annual Lakeside Rodeo. The event brings top rodeo riders from across the country to compete. The Western Days Parade is a local favorite and part of the Rodeo events.
