Mission Hills Real Estate

Mission Hills, located on a mesa just south of the San Diego River valley and north of downtown San Diego, overlooks Old Town and San Diego Bay. It was subdivided in 1908. The area is primarily residential, with small shops and restaurants. Some homes were designed by San Diego’s premier architects such as William E. Hebbard, William Templeton Johnson, Richard Requa, and Joel E. Brown. The single-family residences are mostly bungalows or California-style buildings that add to the general comfortable atmosphere of Mission Hills.

Mission Hills Homes for Sale

In the 1950s and 1960s, modern homes were built along canyon rims. The diversity of architecture adds to the charm of the area and the quiet, tree-lined streets are some of the most desirable in San Diego for individuals and families.

It’s also a desirable place for kids, with good public, private, and religious schools located in Mission Hills. The best known is the lower school campus of the private Francis Parker School, founded in 1912. This school was based on Progressive ideals by William Templeton Johnson and his wife.

The famous horticulturalist Kate O. Sessions helped to influence development in Mission Hills. She founded the Mission Hills Nursery, which has been active business since 1910.

For those looking for an older, established neighborhood with great views of San Diego Bay, it’s hard to beat the Mission Hills area. The proximity to downtown San Diego offers an easy commute as well as a quiet neighborhood that attracts those looking for a comfortable and enjoyable life in America’s Finest City.
