San Diego Golf
San Diego is home to some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. The year-round gorgeous weather means you can pick up your clubs and head for the fairways anytime. And, as home to some of the most prestigious events in golf, you can also see the world’s best players come through, including Phil Mickelson, who makes his home in San Diego.
Among the tournaments, the municipal public course at Torrey Pines is the site each February of the Buick Invitational, which Tiger Woods has won four of the past five years. It includes beautiful vistas of the Pacific Ocean as well as a recently redesigned South Course that is a par 72 at 7,607 yards, the longest of any current PGA course. Torrey Pines will be the site of the US Open in 2008 and annually hosts the Junior World Championships each July.
Another great San Diego tournament is the Accenture Match Play at La Costa Resort & Spa which pits the best 64 players in the world against each other in match play. In addition to these two courses, there are over sixty private, public, executive, and military courses available throughout the area, including such well known courses as The Crosby and The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe.
Because of these beautiful courses, the area also boasts some of the best golf golf and private lessons available anywhere, at any time of the year. And it’s easy to make tee times with convenient online access to reservations for nearly every course. There is even a San Diego Golf Academy, a two-year school where professionals and amateurs can go not only to hone their playing skills, but also to study toward a business career in the 62 billion dollar golf industry.
The San Diego area is also home to many golf manufacturers including Callaway Golf in Carlsbad in the North County area, as well as research and development centers for Titleist and Taylor Made. The area has many good pro shops and golf stores to suit your needs and budget.
Whether you are the occasional golfer or the truly devout player, there’s always a course to play in San Diego that offers new challenges along with blue skies and green fairways. You can play a game any time of the year, watch the pros, learn from great instructors, and test the latest technology made by the games’ most innovative manufacturers. San Diego is truly a golfer’s paradise.
